65 Manganese Steel Hammer Beater & Q345 hammer beater compare

- 2022-07-04-

Regarding to the hammer mill beater material, many users do not know clearly about the difference between these two popular kinds in the market: 65 manganese steel & Q345 steel.
Some supplier even speak false to misleading the end user, who may say Q345 steel is better than 65 manganese steel.
Here we list the main difference for your checking:

1. The carbon content of Q345 steel plate (16 manganese) is much lower than that of 65 manganese steel plate.
Generally speaking, the carbon content of Q345 material is about 0.18%, and the maximum should not exceed 0.2%, otherwise the bending performance will be greatly affected. The carbon content of 65 manganese is about 0.69%, which is much higher than that of 16 manganese. Carbon is the key element for steel to achieve high hardness and wear resistance, but it lacks 16MN of carbon. No matter how hard it is hardened, it is still unable to generate hard and wear-resistant martensite inside.

2.
The tensile strength of 65MN is much higher than that of 16MN.The yield strength of 65MN in the normal state (without heat treatment) is slightly higher than that of 16MN steel plate, but the tensile strength is much higher than it (65MN, 908 VS 16MN 597).

3. Surface hardness
The surface hardness of 16MN is usually less than 1 degree HRC, and the surface hardness of 65MN before heat treatment is as high as about 10 degrees HRC. The properly treated 65MN manganese plate can reach about 60 degrees HRC, which greatly enhances the hardness, deformation resistance, wear resistance and ability of the steel plate.

4. Elasticity and fatigue resistance
16MN and 65MN both contain MN elements, but 65MN achieves strong elasticity and fatigue resistance with the help of carbon and other elements. Therefore, 65MN steel plate, also known as spring steel plate, and ordinary 16MN material do not have these characteristics.
